How to customize the use of ultrasound scanner in a vet clinic?

The participants of the First Veterinary Ultrasound Conference (www.wetusg.pl) which took place in Olsztyn (Poland) last weekend on 3-5 October 2014 had a chance to answer this question. The event was devoted to the topic of ultrasound scanning of small animals and their diagnostics in a vet clinic. It consisted of three parts with a different form of presentation.

On Friday, 3 October we started practical workshops on biopsy under ultrasound control at Pathological Anatomy Department of University of Olsztyn. The lectures and practical classes were conducted by Iwona Otrocka-Domagała DVM PhD and Jan Lorenc DVM. During them the participants were able to listen to advice of the specialists, try out the DRAMIŃSKI – 4Vet ultrasound scanner and practice how to inject a needle on phantoms. The groups were small, that is why there was an excellent opportunity to exchange experience between the participants and the leaders. It led to interesting discussions how to use the ultrasound scanner when performing such precise examination as biopsy.

Saturday 4 October, the second day of the conference was devoted to lectures and interactive sessions. In the first part of the day the head of scientific conference Wojciech Atamaniuk DVM PhD and specialists: Anna Kosiec-Tworus DVM PhD, Adam Gierulski DVM and Anna Łojszczyk-Szczepaniak DVM PhD tried to break stereotypes of ultrasound diagnostics of small animals touching upon the topic of ultrasound diagnostics of reptiles and such organs as: elbow joint, lung or eyeball of different species. In the afternoon we returned to the Veterinary Department of University of Warmia and Mazury. There were four thematic blocks and the participants were able to have a closer look at techniques of examination of previously mentioned organs. The interactive sessions were conducted in amicable atmosphere, which caused an excellent interaction between the leaders and the participants. It was highly appreciated by the participants for an interesting form of sharing the knowledge as well as their practical aspect. At the end of this intensive day there was a dinner party at which every participant could have a rest and spend time among their professional colleagues.

The last day of the conference was fully devoted to lectures on methodology of teaching ultrasonography and the use of Doppler in pathology of blood vessels – the lectures were conducted by Dr Atamaniuk and Dr Kosiec-Tworus, further took part Agnieszka Wdowiarska DVM with an interesting lecture on using an ultrasound scanner in diagnostics of small mammals, Izabella Jońska DVM PhD talked about ultrasound examination of hip joints of puppies, and Dr Gierulski presented the most modern methods of ultrasonographic estimation of fetal-maternal unit and lifetime of dog fetus.

Summing up this event, we can say that it was a unique conference which went beyond the frames of beaten paths of lectures devoted to ultrasound scanning. We are glad that the topics and the team of specialists chosen by us met with the participants’ approval. Personally for us it was a great satisfaction and opportunity to break a common opinion that Dramniński company is a manufacturer of ultrasound scanners for large animals. Thanks to the conference the vets from all corners of Poland convinced themselves that a Polish manufacturer can offer equipment of excellent quality which enables performing ultrasound tests demanding a high level of precision.

Once again we would like to thank you for coming and active participation in the conference. Special thanks to the university authorities for sharing the rooms due to which the idea of the conference could come to fruition.

Welcome to view the pictures.
