In pigs you can perform the tests between 18 and 75 days; however, the highest accuracy is achieved when the tests are performed between 25 and 35 days. In this period there is the highest level of amniotic fluid in the uterus, therefore it is located the most easily. In ewes the tests should be performed between 60 and 120 days (however, the most favourable conditions for testing are after 90 days), in goats from 40 days (the most favourable conditions between 50 and 60 days).

TopThe tester detects the presence of amniotic fluid in the uterus. It uses a phenomenon of ultrasound wave reflection. The probe which is placed on the female body sends a beam of ultrasounds which reflects from the uterus horns filled with fluid and returns, causing a change in the signal generated by the instrument.
